Increasing protected area coverage mitigates climate-driven community changes

چکیده

Climate change has ubiquitous impacts on ecosystems and threatens biodiversity globally. One of the most recognized are redistributions species, a process which can be hindered by habitat degradation. Protected areas (PAs) have been shown to beneficial for preserving reallocating species occurrences under climate change. Yet, studies investigating effects PA networks species' range shifts remain scarce. In theory, well-connected network PAs should promote population persistence To study this, we evaluated coverage avian communities in Finland between two periods 1980–1999 2000–2015. Climate-driven community were investigated using temperature index (CTI). We used linear models association CTI changes southern, central northern Finland. Finland, higher was associated with lower 45% 13% corresponded complete mitigation increase. These results indicate that strongly increases resilience warming climate. A New Way to Measure the World's Protected Area Coverage

Protected areas are effective at stopping biodiversity loss, but their placement is constrained by the needs of people. Consequently protected areas are often biased toward areas that are unattractive for other human uses. Current reporting metrics that emphasise the total area protected do not account for this bias. To address this problem we propose that the distribution of protected areas be...

protected area coverage for terrestrial biomes in iran

efficiency of the existing protected areas network in conservation of biodiversity is one of the most important challenges of protected areas custodians. despite there are numerous articles on evaluating the efficiency of the protected areas for conserving the habitat and species on national and international scales, in iran this subject has not been studied yet. the aim of the present study is...

Suitability determining in protected area for wildlife (Case study: Geno protected area)

Introduction: Rangelands constitute almost 52 percent of the country area computed as 164 million ha. The extent of rangelands has been estimated 84 million ha in Iran and they have been classified as good, moderate to poor and poor to very poor ones ranged as almost 10, 42 and 48 percent, respectively. One of the fundamental problems concerning land uses of rangelands is that Rangeland are not...

Predicting Spatial Habitat Changes of Haftad-Gholleh Protected Area in Markazi Province, Iran

Haftad-Gholleh Area has recently encountered many changes. In this study, by using landsat images of the years 1996 and 2016, landuse maps were classified into four classes including: agriculture, rangeland, residential areas, and rocks. Land Change Modeler (LCM) and Habitat and Biodiversity Modeler (HBM) modules in the Idrisi GIS software were used to analyze the land use changes and habitat e...

Global protected area impacts

Protected areas (PAs) dominate conservation efforts. They will probably play a role in future climate policies too, as global payments may reward local reductions of loss of natural land cover. We estimate the impact of PAs on natural land cover within each of 147 countries by comparing outcomes inside PAs with outcomes outside. We use 'matching' (or 'apples to apples') for land characteristics...
